Untroubled

I started this piece after spending time at Lake Icaria and Green Valley State Park during my art residency in Creston.

Growing up, my parents and I would road-trip around the Midwest, fishing and staying in little cabins. 🎣

Lake Icaria was one of those spots—so while I sat there, surrounded by wildflowers, I found myself remembering those slow, sweet moments of my childhood. 🌼

At Green Valley, I spotted a heron—standing still, calm, and present.

They always seem to show up where everything feels quiet and untouched.

I never really understood why my parents loved fishing so much, but I think I’m starting to get it.

There’s peace in it—peace in being still, surrounded by nature. 🌿

And life today?

It’s anything but still.

It’s loud, chaotic, constantly changing.

But it’s in these slow moments—on a lakeshore, in the quiet, watching a bird wait patiently—that I’m reminded of the kind of peace Jesus offers us. ✨

The world is full of fear, injustice, and noise.

But Jesus doesn’t give peace like the world does.

His peace reaches deeper. It anchors us when everything feels uncertain.

So friend, if your heart feels heavy or restless—this is your reminder to breathe, to be still, and to receive the peace that only He can give. 💙

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

John 14:27
